Privacy
This page explains what AnBuild records when you use it, how, and who sees it. It applies to everyone, wherever you are and whether or not you are signed in.
What we record
- The listings and storefronts you open, and where you came from: a search, the catalogue, a storefront, an ad or another site.
- What you search for, and the categories you browse.
- When you are signed in: items you add to estimates and ads you click.
How we tell visits apart
Each browser gets a random identifier in a cookie named anb_vid. When a browser blocks that
cookie, we recognise it by a fingerprint instead: a one-way hash of settings your browser shares with every
site, such as its version, language, time zone and screen size. We hash that fingerprint again with a secret
key before storing it, so the stored value cannot be matched with one computed anywhere else. Neither the
cookie nor the fingerprint contains your name or email.
Who sees it
- Vendors see totals and groups: how many people viewed their listings, where they came from, and how many estimates plan their items. A group smaller than five people is never shown. Vendors never see who you are from what you browse or plan.
- AnBuild uses what signed-in people do to recommend materials and trades and to choose which ad fits the job at hand. Ads never target anyone by name.
Our emails
AnBuild's emails contain a tiny image and links that pass through anbbuild.com. Together they record when an email is opened and which links are followed. We use that to measure and improve our emails and, for promotional emails such as weekly picks, to suggest materials for your project. We don't record your IP address or device. Turning off images in your mail app stops the open from being recorded, and you can turn off weekly picks and message emails in email preferences or from the link at the foot of each email.
When you sign an agreement
When you send or accept an invoice and agreement, we keep a record of the signing so it can be shown later that you signed it: the name you typed, your account and email, the time, your IP address, your browser and device (its name, a random identifier it keeps for AnBuild, its language, time zone, screen and the fingerprint above) and your sign-in session. The record is sealed with a digital signature so it can't be changed afterwards. The other party doesn't see these details. We keep them for as long as we keep the agreement, even if you ask us to remove other data, because they are the proof of what both of you agreed to.
